Frankie Rose revealed a second song off her forthcoming Fat Possum debut, Herein Wild, this week, sharing with the NY Times Style Magazine a cover of goth/punk band the Damned's "Street Of Dreams." T magazine notes that Rose's standout version of the track "brings a modern spin to the quintessential goth tune with menacing synths and pulsing rhythms, her angelic voice taking on a more ghostly cast than usual" This track is a highlight on the new album and can be heard below.
"Street Of Dreams" comes weeks after the first track, "Sorrow", was revealed to fans on and praised by a diverse range of critics. Billboard, who recently did aninterview on Rose, lauded "Sorrow", noting that it "presents some unexpected sonic treats, including a string arrangement that bulks up the track's emotional impact and a roaring outro that rewards patience." SPINremarked that Rose "expands on her New Wave-y pop leanings, turning in an upbeat, string-enhanced performance with just a hint of Broadcast in the mix." Stereogum went on to compare the song to "David Lynch's idea of coffeehouse folk."Check out the new Pitchfork Update feature on Frankie Rose for more details on the new album.
Frankie Rose's forthcoming album, Herein Wild, is out on Fat Possum on September 24th. Look out for North American tour dates coming soon.
Press Quotes /"Rose's glistening pop doesn't sound over melancholy. The music is moody enough to lyrically recognize life's struggles and the passage of time, but beautiful enough to evoke vast bodies of water and clouds meandering by." Billboard "An artist whose scope is increasing all the time and who knows exactly what she’s doing." Stereogum "There is no questioning her status as a crusader of Brooklyn’s indie-pop scene." The New York Times "Expands on her New Wave-y pop leanings, turning in an upbeat, string-enhanced performance with just a hint of Broadcast in the mix." SPIN "She's rocking the current micro-vogue for Eighties shoegaze pop: guitar-synth swirls, paper-thin New Wave bass surge, space-waif vocals like a spring breeze that barely billows your window curtains."
