Ash Announce 2014 US Winter Tour
February 13th-17th 2014
Catch Them in Los Angeles:
Jan 31st @ The Echo

New York, NY – Ash is excited to announce another US headlining tour at the start of 2014.  The tour follows last Spring’s well-received trek that had the band headlining a number of noteworthy venues including NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, playing a string of dates with Weezer and returning to SXSW for the first time in seven years.  Ash will kick things off this time in the Pacific Northwest at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle on January 27th.  They then work their way down the West Coast and head East before ending the three week plus run with this year’s The Weezer Cruise.  The Cruise kicks off in Jacksonville, FL and has the band joining a stellar line-up that includes Cat PowerToro Y Moi andPalma Violets.

In addition to touring this coming winter, Ash – Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray – have been writing and demoing new material at their Atomic Heart Studios in Manhattan to follow up their A-Z Series campaign released in 2012. This comes as the band moves into their third decade together.  Over the past 20 plus years, Ash has built a reputation for cranking out hard edged punk-fueled power pop.  From their earliest gigs as teenagers on the Belfast club scene in 1992 to their first official single in 1993, “Jack Names the Planets,” Ash quickly won recognition in the UK.  In 1996 the British press showered the band with praise for the platinum-selling 1977, which led to a supporting slot with Weezer and their first trip to the States.  By the end of the ’90s, guitarist Charlotte Hatherley had joined the band, and in 2001, they had another UK hit on their hands with “Shining Light,” from the number one albumFree All Angels.  After 2004’s moody Meltdown, Ash stripped down to a trio again and took up residence in Manhattan at their newly minted Atomic Heart Studios. 2007’s Twilight of the Innocentswas the band’s fifth full-length studio album and last for a major.

Following the release of Twilight of the Innocents, Ash found themselves between labels and decided to take the opportunity to abandon the album-tour-album cycle they had been on for past 15 years and come up with a new approach to releasing music.  The result was the idea for the A-Z Series – born out of a daunting mission to record and release a new song every two weeks.  Originally released in the UK in 2010, they supported the A-Z Series with a European tour that had Bloc Party guitarist (and longtime Ash fan) Russell Lissack joining them live.

In November 2012, the series got its’ first US release and found the original trio returning Stateside this past Spring for their first US tour in seven years, which fittingly included a handful of dates with Weezer.  Since wrapping a very successful US tour earlier this year, the band has returned to the studio with a renewed sense of purpose and set their sights on recording and releasing a new Ash studio album in 2014.  In addition, Wheeler has been working on a solo album that he’s also looking to release in 2014.  More news to come and in the meantime, catch Ash live this winter in the US, confirmed dates below.
