With a sound that combines angular, math-rock arrangements with catchy melodies and subtle grooves, Confluence's music is both emotionally engaging and musically deft. According to the band, each of the singles they will be releasing share a running theme of time and transition. "'The Line' was inspired by certain expectations put upon younger generations, expectations to follow a straight-and-narrow line and either learn a trade or go to college," Gassman explains, "then transition immediately to a day-job grind because hard work is everything, and to succeed by any means necessary." The group have known each other for nearly a decade, playing with each other in various musical incarnations over the years. After Gassman's previous band broke up in summer 2011, Alan Hubbard, Spenser Leighton and Gassman began messing around as a trio. While they wrote a few songs, they knew something was missing. By February of 2012, that something was found when Brett DeWire joined the group. Their new groove and riff-driven sound developed out of months of playing live and workshopping new material, and gives a glimpse at the entertaining variety of their live shows. The band is currently releasing a series of singles (recorded and mixed at Mammoth Cave Studios in Denver) and is planning to tour throughout the spring, with additional dates to be announced. | |
