THE BLUE ANGEL LOUNGE RELEASE A SEA OF TREES ON MAY 6th 2014
"It was easy to lose count of how many times the words “Blue Angel Lounge” were mentioned in overheard conversations at Psych Fest. They really did sound pretty amazing. Playing as menacing shadows against a bleak, washed out backdrop, their sound was a mix of psych, new wave, and post-punk. It painted a very noir picture and sucked you in like a sinkhole into the depths of black emptiness. So the hype in this instance was correct: The Blue Angel Lounge really does create something memorable." -Austin Chronicle (Austin Psych Fest 2012)
“If these guys lived in America, they'd be huge now"– Zia McCabe, The Dandy Warhols
"The Blue Angel Lounge was the most talked about band at Austin Psych Fest this year. The balance between the drony and melodic hooks, as well as the enchanting vocals of Nils Ottensmeyer, pulled you in and somehow made you forget about everyone and everything around you." - Eleven Magazine (about the show in Portland supporting the Brian Jonestown Massacre)
The Blue Angel Lounge will release their new album, A Sea of Trees on May 6, 2014through A Recordings. Listen and share “Musk” at https://soundcloud.com/the-blue-angel-lounge/musk. Several of the band’s conceptual and live videos are archived here:http://www.youtube.com/user/blueangellounge
A Sea Of Trees sees the band blossom into its own, incorporating the experimentation of their most recent EP and Single releases (Ewig 2012, “Walls” 2013). From the very first moment of A Sea Of Trees, the epic opening track “Winter” wastes no time sonically detailing where the band has been. The band’s weapons of choice: guitars coupled with harmonium and singer Nils Ottensmeyer’s powerful Nico’esque vocals culminate in genre-bending territory belonging to them alone.
Strangers to the mainstream, but revered by a steadily expanding fanbase around the world, the band have earned the respect of other groups such as Interpol, The Dandy Warhols, and A Place To Bury Strangers and been invited to support them on tour.
Anton Newcombe, a fan of the band, assisted with production of The Blue Angel Lounge’s last album Narcotica. In 2012, The Blue Angel Lounge supported The Brian Jonestown Massacre on a 10 show tour of the United States, earning rave reviews. The band has been invited twice to the prestigious Austin Psych Festival (2011 and 2012),Roskilde Festival (2013) and in November 2012 supported The Dandy Warhols in England, France, Netherlands, and Belgium
The Blue Angel Lounge formed in 2006, after meeting at school in their German village Hohenlimburg near the Rhine River. Led by singer Nils “O.” Ottensmeyer and Dennis Melster, the band took their name from the club in New York City that in the 1960’s offered Nico her first live performances in America.
A Sea Of Trees was recorded between 2013 and 2014 at Funkhaus-studio and Studio H1-3 Nalepastrasse, Berlin. Mixed at A Recordings Studio, Berlin. Produced, recorded and mixed by Fabien Leseure and The Blue Angel Lounge.
