Play It Again Sam’s critically acclaimed singer Melanie De Biasio will appear on the new series ofLater…With Jools Holland, BBC2’s flagship music show, on Tuesday October 7th (repeated Friday October 10th). De Biasio is the first Belgian artist to be invited on the show since 1995.
De Biasio has also announced her biggest London headline show yet at Village Undergound, Shoreditch, on Monday 24th November. Tickets can be bought here
On her last visit to London in June, De Biasio performed at James Lavelle’s Meltdown Festival and supported Eels at the Royal Albert, having previously supported Agnes Obel on her headline tour in April.
2014 has been a breakthrough year for the Brussels-based artist, who has been championed by Gilles Peterson and Lauren Laverne at BBC 6Music, with the station recently playlisting her debut single I’m Gonna Leave You. No Deal received 4 star reviews from The Guardian, Mojo, and Record Collector, with Hi-Fi Plus awarding it 10 out of 10, saying “I think we have the album of the year on our hands.”
The minimalist, semi-improvised No Deal should appeal to fans of late-period Talk Talk, who’s Mark Hollis is a huge figure for De Biasio. She also cites Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd as formative influences, plus jazz icons Nina Simone and Abbey Lincoln.
