LOS ANGELES GIRL GROUP LEGENDS THE RED AUNTS RETURN!
'COME UP FOR A CLOSER LOOK' GREATEST HITS DOUBLE ALBUM
RELEASED DECEMBER 9TH THROUGH IN THE RED RECORDS
LINER NOTES BY SASHA FRERE-JONES

The Red Aunts are an all-female punk band that formed in 1991 in Long Beach, California, when Terri Wahl(guitar/vocals) recruited friends Kerry Davis (guitar/vocals), Debi Martini (bass/vocals), and Lesley Ishino(drums). Their brand of unfiltered music is toxic, taking a sharp claw to every riot grrrl cliché it can shred. After five albums, several years of touring, and a huge fan base, they called it quits in 1998. The girls recently decided it was time to wake people up and save the music with their unique form of ROCK. Their greatest hits compilation,'COME UP FOR A CLOSER LOOK' will be released December 9th - a gatefold sleeve double album, complete with killer art and photos, plus liner notes by Red Aunts fan, Sasha Frere-Jones.
"The Red Aunts were nothing to mess with....wonderfully reckless rock." Randall Roberts/LA Times

“…punk songs that are eerily influenced by blues and old-school rock 'n' roll. Once in a while, vocal cords are laid to waste and guitars are set to shred.” AV Club
"...ricocheting and mesmerizing, so unlike the taxidermized smoothness of most bands seeking an audience. Instead, listeners become immersed in the band’s narrative spins, unlimited high-pitched yelps, propulsive beats, varied time signatures, and throbbing bass brouhaha." Popmatters - Top 10 Female Punk Bands
"There's no between-the-lines...the band's breezy nihilism takes care of a girl-core itch that needs to be scratched." Art Forum
"Angular and blaring, the Red Aunts find new ways to beat their guitars and screech throughout....making their music essential for die-hard punk rock fans, or for those who just prefer their music served raw." Alternative Press
"Primal energy like theirs is hard to classify. The Red Aunts can't be measured by scale...any connoisseur with an ear for feline ferocity can identify natural talent." Vice
