THE DECEMBERISTS UNEARTH RARE 1977 GERMAN TV PERFORMANCE OF
“MAKE YOU BETTER” ON THE OLD BLUE ROCK PALACE SHOW
BAND ANNOUNCES LONG-AWAITED FOLLOW-UP PERFORMANCE
OF THEIR HIT MUSIC SONG DECEMBER 3 ON CONAN
Long rumored to exist, a rare 1977 German television performance of The Decemberistsperforming their hit music song “Make You Better” on The Old Blue Rock Palace Show has just been unearthed to the delight of the band’s hardcore fans among whom the fabled appearance had achieved mythical status. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
The Decemberists have also announced a long-awaited follow-up performance of “Make You Better” which will take place on the U.S. television program Conan on December 3, 2014. The song has been making a quick ascent up the Triple-A radio charts cracking the Top 10 in just three weeks.
The footage from The Old Blue Rock Palace Show provides invaluable documentation of the band’s early development that will be pored over by rock historians for years to come. It was discovered on the show’s website theoldbluerockpalaceshow.tumblr.com, which was previously assumed to have been defunct for decades. The malfunctioning website has also leaked illuminating outtakes of lead singer Colin Meloy’s interview with the show’s host.
“Make You Better” will also be released on The Decemberists’ seventh studio album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, which will come out January 20 in North America on Capitol Records and January 19 in the U.K. and Europe on Rough Trade Records. A pre-sale of the album in all formats as well as tickets for the band’s European and North American tours are available now at thedecemberists.com.
