Touted as one of The 10 Hardest Working Bands in LA by Oh My Rockness,
Criminal Hygiene kick off 2015 with the release of the
Turpentine 7" out today, via
New Professor Music. The
Turpentine 7" features the title track and a raucous cover of Devo's
"Uncontrollable Urge" that has
Noisey asking "How could you not want to smoke a fat doob and talk about Big Star with those guys."The LA based three-piece, led by Michael Fiore (lead guitar/vocals), Michael Hiller (bass/vocals) and Sean "Birdman" Erickson (drums) have been doing their best to balance the evocative and the asinine since their 2013 debut, the
CRMNL HYGNE LP and a series of tours with The Orwells, Twin Peaks and Meatbodies. Criminal Hygiene balance their pizza delivery-boy image, with what
SPIN calls, "fantastically boisterous garage-punk" and
KEXP has called their combo of gruff vocals and distorted guitars, "a recipe for ruckus."
The follow up to last year's,
Withdrawn EP (
Cultist Records) and the
Criminal Hygiene/Dagos 7" Split (
Summer Bummer Records), the
Turpentine 7" finds the trio refining their sound and had
Entertainment Weekly claiming, "some of the riffs here sound like Jimmy Page ditched the studio and grabbed a surfboard."
