Video Premiere Via NPR Music
Low have released a new video for their song “Plastic Cup”, from their critically acclaimed 10th album, The Invisible Way. The clip was directed by friend Ryley Fogg. NPR premiered the music video today, which you can watch here.
NPR Music says of the video, “Creepy, hooded figures intercut with black-and-white images of the band performing in period costumes....It takes a while to realize that the alien creatures seen in the video are actually massive giants. And the band is playing inside a glitter-filled snow globe. Frontman Alan Sparhawk sneers sarcastically and rolls his eyes through every line, before the band breaks into a kaleidoscopic dance, shot overhead, like something out of a Busby Berkley film."
And Low’s Alan Sparhawk had this to say about the “Plastic Cup” video & why they chose to work with Ryley Fogg: “I have known director Ryley Fogg since we were in a band together in college called "3D Psycho Paisley". Ryley has gone on into film, most recently being part of "Sound City" film with Dave Grohl. The video imagery draws heavily on the look of the first "talkies", taking the band thru a psychedelic, alien encounter from outside our little sparkly world.”
Low's North American and European tour schedule has been extended through November 24. The band will kick-off this run of dates with a short co-headlining tour alongside longtime friend Mike Doughty (of Soul Coughing fame) beginning on June 17th in Washington, DC at Sixth & I Synagogue and ending on June 21st in Philadelphia, PA’s World Cafe Live. Additional highlights include: June 22nd in North Adams, MA at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival; two dates with Swans: July 18th in Indianapolis, IN at Deluxe and July 19 in Detroit, MI at Majestic Theater: July 20th in Chicago, IL at Pitchfork Music Festival; And August 17 in Black Mountain, Wales for the Green Man Festival. Please find a full list of tour dates below.
