BECK Receives Khruangbin Remix of “No Distraction” for his Birthday

To commemorate Beck’s July 8 birthday, Khruangbin is gifting the seven-time GRAMMY-winner with a singular interpretation of a beloved song from his lauded catalogue:
“No Distraction (Khruangbin Remix)” features the Houston TX trio reconstructing this deep cut from Beck’s Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical GRAMMY-winning 2017 album Colors. The track is available now across digital platforms.
Beck’s current album Hyperspace was released November 22, 2019 on Capitol Records, and has been uniformly hailed as yet another in a series of nearly 30 years of creative peaks. The ASSOCIATED PRESS raved “There is not a boring moment on the entire album,” USA TODAY added “14 albums into his career, Beck has rarely been better than he is on Hyperspace,” while David Fricke of ROLLING STONE’s 4-star lead review likened Beck’s voice on the album’s lead single “Uneventful Days” to “David Bowie’s Major Tom checking in from distant orbit.”

Napalm Death Announce New Album, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism (Sept. 18, Century Media Records)
NAPALM DEATH ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, THROES OF JOY IN THE JAWS OF DEFEATISM; ARRIVES SEPT. 18 VIA CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS
Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism album cover |
July 8, 2020, Birmingham, UK - U.K. grindcore pioneers Napalm Death are delighted to announce their upcoming studio album, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism, is slated for a Sept. 18 release via Century Media Records. Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism, the band’s highly-anticipated follow-up to Napalm Death’s critically-acclaimed 2015 album, Apex Predator – Easy Meat, was again recorded with long time producer Russ Russell and features artwork by Frode Sylthe. Napalm Death vocalist Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway checked in with the following comment about the upcoming album and its theme: “The phrase sticking in my mind when I started thinking about the lyrical direction for this album was ‘the other.’ You could recognise at the time that there was a rapidly growing fear and paranoia being generated about everybody, from migrating people to people with fluid sexuality and this was starting to manifest itself in very antagonistic reactions that you felt were almost verging on violence. Not everybody resorts to such reactions of course, but even the basic lack of understanding can become toxic over time. I’m not saying that this is an entirely new phenomenon, but it has been stoked in recent history by some particularly attack-minded people in more political circles and, as ever, I felt that it would be the natural antidote to endorse basic humanity and solidarity with all. The artwork specifically uses a white dove as a centrepiece, which of course is a commonly recognised symbol of peace and cooperation. The dove has been mauled very violently by a sterilising hand and in death appears particularly broken and bloodied. However, through the violence you can see an equality symbol in blood on the chest of the dove, which perhaps demonstrates – visually at least – that equality cuts through in the end. A positive amidst many negatives then, much like the album title itself being a bit of an oxymoron – the celebration of humanity even in the mangling jaws of negativity.” From the pinnacle of confrontational instrumental extremity and steadfast lyrical humanity, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism warps musical landscapes all over again. The 12-song album is seething with caustic evolution and unrelenting scope. Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism track list: 1. F**k the Factoid 2. Backlash Just Because 3. That Curse of Being in Thrall 4. Contagion 5. Joie De Ne Pas Vivre 6. Invigorating Clutch 7. Zero Gravitas Chamber 8. Fluxing of the Muscle 9. Amoral 10. Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism 11. Acting in Gouged Faith 12. A Bellyful of Salt and Spleen A first single off Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism will be launched on July 24 as pre-orders become available. Look out for further details and the various album formats to be revealed soon. Napalm Death most recently released a quickly sold-out 7” / digital EP titled Logic Ravaged By Brute Force to coincide with the band’s most recent European tour. Today, Eyedress shares his new fever dream video for "Last Time I'm Falling In Love" directed by Bobby Astro (Zack Fox/Father). In just two and half minutes, Eyedress takes us on a love fueled car chase through constantly shifting worlds, starring himself as a getaway driver and his pregnant girlfriend, Elvia, as a mermaid.
Eyedress' upcoming full length, Let's Skip To The Wedding, is due out on August 7th, 2020 via Lex Records. The album is his first since relocating from Manila to LA in late 2018. A passionate exploration of his love and fears as he prepares to welcome a child into this ever changing world.

Bio:
Eyedress is the alias of Filipino artist Idris Vicuña, formerly lead guitarist of psychedelic indie/noise-pop band Bee Eyes. Born in 1990 in the city of Makati, Philippines. Vicuña relocated to the US with his family at the age of 6. He was raised in Phoenix, Arizona before moving to San Clemente, California at the age of 13, where he started playing bass in a Crass-influenced crust-punk band.
In 2005, Vicuña moved back to Manila - He released his first solo record entitled Hearing Colors in 2013. Well received by music blogs, it led to him signing his first record deal with XL Recordings imprint Abeano. He followed up in 2016 with his second full length, Shapeshifter. The title track featured King Krule under his Edgar The Breathtaker alias.
The follow up was released in November 2018. Sensitive G is a deeply personal reflection on the joys and pains of his life in Manila told through the styles he was influenced whilst growing up in the US; R&B, dream-pop, indie rock, punk rock and G-funk. A more solitary affair, Sensitive G was recorded almost entirely by himself in his bedroom and demonstrates a more refined and visceral approach to his process and palette.
Following the release of Sensitive G he relocated from Manila to LA, and began collaborating with kindred spirits like Cuco and Inner Wave. 2019 found him sharing stages with acts like Homeshake, Enjoy, Jasper Bones, N8NOFACE, and B Cool Aid, as well as supporting Inner Wave on their 13 date west coast summer tour.
Eyedress' upcoming LP, Let's Skip To The Wedding, is the first album he’s created since moving to the United States. A passionate exploration of the themes of love, settling down, adjusting to life in a new city, and preparing to welcome a child into this ever changing world. Let's Skip To The Wedding channels the uncertainty of 2020 into an eclectic collection of songs and loved up remedy for the times.

Some Days Are Darker Debut "Take Me Anywhere" Video via New Noise
SOME DAYS ARE DARKER DEBUT “TAKE ME ANYWHERE” VIDEO VIA NEW NOISE LOVE+TRUTH ARRIVES JULY 31 VIA INFERNO CHOIR “The solo endeavor of singer/songwriter Lear Mason, Some Days Are Darker illustrates a rich soundscape colored by hues of love, loss, and rebirth, an era-ambiguous amalgamation of goth-rock gloom and modern-day crooner.” – New Noise

July 9, 2020 – Phoenix, Ariz. – Some Days Are Darker, the Phoenix-based outfit that The Entertainer described as having “a sound that lies between Nick Cave and Chris Isaak,” debut the video for “Take Me Anywhere” via New Noise (https://newnoisemagazine.com/video-premiere-some-days-are-darker-take-me-anywhere/). “Take Me Anywhere,” which is the second preview from the forthcoming release Love+Truth (July 31, Inferno Choir) with a video for “Wolves” (https://youtu.be/MKVTpKAQhdA) released in early June, has been described by singer/guitar player Lear Mason as an exploration of “the thrill of forbidden love. We don’t get to choose who we fall in love with, and there’s a danger in that. How far are you willing to go?" Album pre-orders are available here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/somedaysaredarker/love-truth. “I grew up across the river from Detroit, my mom exposed me to Motown while my dad was a fan of The Stooges and MC5,” said Mason upon the announcement of Love+Truth. “Growing up with that combination of music in our house made what now seems like an unusual pairing seem natural to me. I think you can hear that freedom and those influences in the music I make. I’m getting back to the early fifties style of recording where you just stand in front of the microphone, hit record, and play the song.” Dubbed “an era-ambiguous amalgamation of goth-rock gloom and modern day crooner,” Some Days Are Darker’s debut release is “like the True Detective soundtrack meets the Pretty in Pink soundtrack.” # # #

“Better Man” was written as a cathartic release after finding the courage to cut ties with a person who I entrusted with my career. |

Hear “Better Man” via your preferred streaming platform now. Follow along onInstagram, Facebook and Twitter Manipulation is emotional blackmail. They use certain behaviours to influence how you think, feel and act until you are broken down to a fragment of what you once were. When your success is monopolized by someone else holding the key, you find yourself making deals with the devil without a clue how you got there. After wallowing in solitary shame and indignation for years, I decided to flip the script. It is my hope that this song will inspire those in an inferior position to no longer normalize the silent epidemic of abuse of power. And if you’ve been a casualty of career manipulation, seek redemption by waving the red flag and being resilient. 🖤 Kandle |

Vampire Weekend Releases Amazon Original EP 'Live In Florida'
Vampire Weekend Releases Amazon Original EP Live In Florida |
July 9, 2020: Today, Vampire Weekend released an Amazon Original EP, Live In Florida, available now to stream and purchase only on Amazon Music. Recorded last year on their Father of the Bride Tour, the EP captures selections from the band’s two Florida performances at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre and at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. The EP features live versions of songs that span Vampire Weekend’s discography, including Father of the Bride standouts “Sunflower,” “How Long?,” and “2021,” as well as other classics like “A Punk” and “White Sky.” The EP is now available across all tiers of Amazon Music— including in immersive, 3D Audio, on Amazon Music HD. “Vampire Weekend has had a long and healthy relationship with the Florida music fan, and last summer's Miami/St. Augustine run was no different,” explains drummer Chris Tomson. “These shows were a little sticky in the August humidity but I had so much fun playing and the really great crowd vibes always help (especially, but not limited to, Nick from Orlando's inspired assistance on A-Punk). These shows stayed with me like the pepper sauce from O'Steen's or a Cubano Doble from Enriqueta’s.” Vampire Weekend released their acclaimed fourth album Father of the Bride on Columbia Records in 2019. The band’s first release in six years quickly became their third album in a row to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 and garnered their second Grammy award for Best Alternative Music Album. Father of the Bride received an enthusiastic reaction from the press, including Rolling Stone, Vulture, The New York Times and Esquire, who proclaimed “Vampire Weekend have gone and made another masterpiece,” as well as The Guardian, who called them “A band pushing past their boundaries with striking results,” and GQ, who said “One of the most ~important~ bands of the 21st century…the group has expanded itself and the conception of what a band can be.” Capping off a banner year, Vampire Weekend embarked on their most ambitious tour to date, selling out arenas and amphitheaters around the world. Amazon Music listeners can find Vampire Weekend’s Live In Florida on the playlist Control Alt Repeat, providing a global stage for alternative fans to find new releases from established acts, or discover their next favorite band. Customers can also simply ask, “Alexa play the Amazon Original by Vampire Weekend” in the Amazon app for iOS and Android and on Alexa-enabled devices. Blonde Redhead - Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons (20th Anniversary Edition) Available September 4, 2020

*PRE-ORDER NOW*
"The beauty of Blonde Redhead's music fries my brain. They are my only friend."
- Guy Picciotto -
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Blonde Redhead's classic album, Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons, Touch and Go Records will release a deluxe vinyl edition on September 4, 2020. This limited edition of 2000 is pressed on 180-gram opaque magenta pink vinyl at RTI and packaged in a full-color gatefold jacket with revised cover art and never-before-seen photos from the original recording sessions.
Originally released 20 years ago on June 6, 2000, Blonde Redhead's third Touch and Go Records album was recorded earlier that year at Bear Creek Studio in Washington state from January 15 to February 18 with Guy Picciotto and Ryan Hadlock. With Guy helping to shape the sound of the record, Simone, Kazu, and Amedeo found themselves in an ideal environment to create the iconic album that emerged from those sessions.
Since 2017, the album has gained a rabid new fanbase after the popular TV series Rick and Morty used the song "For the Damaged Coda" as the "Evil Morty" theme music.
Orders will ship to arrive on or before September 4, 2020.

From the first notes of "Equally Damaged", you are drawn in - starting wtih a simple, twisted melody, augmented bit by bit with the rhythms and distinctive vocals and lyrics which are the center of these songs. Moved dramatically to the front of the mix, the vocals on this record are rich and melodic, sometimes recorded with three mics at once to get the depth of the sound. The instrumentation and presentation of each song create intricately layered, provocative, and genuinely emotional songs that continue to play themselves in your head for days.
The mix of the guitars, the power of the drums, and the infectiousness of the rhythms, combined with the remarkable vocals and lyrics, make Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons a true masterpiece.
A Side:
Equally Damaged * In Particular * Melody of Certain Damaged Three * Hated Because of Great Qualities * Loved Despite of Great Faults
