Highasakite Wrap US Tour with London Grammar & Impress at SXSW with NPR,TIME and Vogue Taking Notice
Norwegian Quintet Announce US Headlining Dates in May as US Debut Album Silent Treatment is set to Drop on April 8th via Propeller Recordings/InKind Music New York, NY – Norwegian quintet Highasakite is thrilled to announce a handful of US headlining dates in May that follow a very successful US tour as main support for London Grammar as well as several noteworthy SXSW performances. The band had critics singing their praises this past month with TIME picking them as a “band to watch,” “even if you don’t make it to SXSW.” They were one ofVogue’s “The Best Music Acts from SXSW That You May Not Know, But You Will Love” alongside Black Lips, Glass Animals, Pure Bathing Culture and Speedy Ortiz. AndNPR’s All Songs Considered included them in their round-up of “Favorite Discoveries and Memorable Moments,” noting that “This five-piece Norwegian band makes music with a hint of pop, powerful vocals and booming percussion.” All of this praise and excitement comes as Highasakite – Ingrid Helene Håvik (zither, steel drum, vocal), Trond Bersu (drums), Øystein Skar (synths), Marte Eberson (synths), and Kristoffer Lo (guitar) – are about to release their debut US album Silent Treatment on Propeller Recordings/InKind Music on April 8th. The album is the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed debut EP In and Out of Weeks released in March 2013 in the US also on Propeller Recordings/InKind Music. Silent Treatment was written almost entirely by Håvik who started the band with Trond Bersu whom she met at the Trondheim Jazz Conservatory. She spent part of her time writing the new album in Upstate NY as well as in Istanbul – both places she counts as influences along with a range of other inspirations such as Bulgarian vocal choirs. Ultimately the songs on the new album reflect her exploration as an artist, musician and vocalist.
Currently based in the Norwegian capital of Oslo, the band has come into their own this past year with Silent Treatmentcoming in at #1 on the album charts in Norway and earning them a Norwegian Grammy nomination as well as a performance at the awards show this past January: WATCH HERE. Their recent stateside trek with London Grammar and much talked about SXSW performances have caused a demand for Highasakite in the US, who is already a favorite at festivals across Europe. So the band is thrilled to be returning in May for several headlining dates that follow the highly anticipated April 8th release of Silent Treatment. The album is available for pre-order at Amazon or iTunes.
